Fairfax & Sammons Architects Wins Palladio Award for a New House in Lost Tree Village

Nov. 21, 2017

We attended a lovely ceremony at The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach, Florida by the Florida Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. The project is a new house in Lost Tree Village in the Anglo-Caribbean style. The team involved in the project was SMLA Landscape Architects, Cynthia Thomas Interior Design, and Woolems Construction Company.

The most thrilling feature of "A New House in Lost Tree Village" is the axial sequence of spaces alluded to above, which leads from the motor court through to the lake, and the intersection of this main sequence with the secondary axis connecting the dining/billiards room to the cypress-paneled library via a stately entry hall. These two axes are repeated on the second floor: in one direction from the rookery through the living room clerestory windows to a commanding view of the lake, and in the perpendicular direction from the one-bedroom wing to another through the living room upper balcony.
